Bénédicte CauweThe 2009 Immunology of Autoimmunity Meeting brought together 13 excellent young researchers from the University of Leuven, the University of Antwerp and Hasselt University for a day of outstanding science and science communication. We acknowledge the support of Enzo Life Sciences for catering. Special acknowledgement belongs to three researchers who won awards for their presentations:
Congratulations to Bénédicte Cauwe from the University of Leuven for winning the New Investigator Prize for her talk "Gelatinase B/MMP-9 cleaves intracellular substrates and thus decreases general T cell responses to (systemic auto)antigens"
Joint congratulations go to Clementine Perrier from University of Leuven and Myrthe Rouwette from Hasselt University for winning the Science Communication Prize. Clementine asked "Immunity or tolerance at intestinal surfaces - what goes wrong when inflammatory bowel disease develop?" and Myrthe spoke about "Early diagnosis of multiple sclerosis". Special thanks also to Nele Caeyers from the rheumatoid arthritis patient support group for judging the science communication talks.
